Are you looking for a Disaster Recovery Manager but are finding it difficult to recruit one? Have you relied on recruitment companies but have not had the expected results?

In this article we explain who this figure is and what he/she does and the advantages of turning to Ricercamy as a partner in the search and selection of profiles in the IT sector.

It must be said that the operational continuity of IT systems is a priority for companies in every sector. The continuity of all operational and business processes depends on it every day.

Disaster Recovery is an aspect of Business Continuity, specifically the approach taken by an organisation to restore access to and functionality of its IT infrastructure following natural or man-made disasters (such as equipment failures or cyber attacks).

The Disaster Recovery Manager protects a company’s data, as well as its hardware and software, by creating technical Disaster Recovery plans and business continuity plans. He coordinates, tests and updates the plans to ensure that things work when needed, and also provides training to staff members.

Specifically deals with data replication and computer processing in an off-premise location that is not affected by the disaster event. Works with the technology department within an organisation to develop programmes and review resources required for technical recovery (such as off-site data storage), oversees the development and execution of procedures, programmes and policies to ensure the security of data, databases, information systems and technology. Implements database designs, data models, data access and table maintenance codes.

When servers fail due to a natural disaster, device failure or an attack that has compromised IT security, the company must recover lost data from a second location where data backup is available. In theory, an organisation can also transfer computer processing to the remote location in order to continue to be operational.

As cyber-attacks and natural disasters become more and more prevalent, the role of Disaster Recovery Manager becomes more essential than ever to ensure Business Continuity. Risk assessment and a business impact analysis quantifying the possible effects of a disaster event are effective tools for managing a Disaster Recovery plan.

What is a Disaster Recovery Plan?

The Disaster Recovery Plan, which is an integral part of the Business Continuity Plan, formalises the technical and organisational measures aimed at achieving the objectives of restoring technological functions, IT procedures and the restoration of processing services, in the event of a disaster or serious emergency capable of rendering unusable

the hardware equipment, either for direct cause (destruction of the same), or for indirect causes (inagibility/accessibility of the premises – machine room – that house it);
the software, data and documentation hosted in the hardware equipment and/or in the above premises, limiting the risk of data loss at the time of restart to the threshold level agreed during the Business Impact Analysis (BIA).
The main objective is to develop, test and document a well-structured and easily understood process to recover as quickly and effectively as possible from an unforeseen disaster or emergency that disrupts information systems, critical technology platforms, telecommunications infrastructure and, consequently, business operations.

The plan must include a recovery point objective (RPO) that indicates the frequency of backups and a recovery time objective (RTO) that defines the maximum number of downtimes allowed after a disaster event. These metrics define boundaries to guide the choice of IT strategy, processes and procedures that make up an organisation’s Disaster Recovery plan. The number of downtimes an organisation is able to handle and the frequency with which it backs up data represent its Disaster Recovery strategy. Finally, it is important to periodically check the effectiveness of the plan before the disaster event occurs to be sure that it is working.

Plans should be tested to ensure that appropriate plans are in place to prevent organisations from losing valuable data, hardware and software. Recovery pre-planning is essential because it allows a collective understanding of the recovery components needed and the critical business processes. Disaster recovery specialists present their recovery and recovery plans to the organisation’s technology leaders and seek their approval before proceeding.

The Disaster Recovery Manager must ensure that all employees involved fully understand their duties in implementing the plan; that operational policies are adhered to within all planned activities; that proposed contingency arrangements are cost effective; the need to consider implications on other company sites.

It is also responsible for:

  • Coordinating the development, training and operation of a recovery plan.
  • Establishing contacts/networks for recovery resources and support systems
  • Implement practices to promote sustainability in strategic planning initiatives
  • Validate accessibility and security
  • Train internal and external contacts and contractors
  • Assess damage
  • Identify scope of repair work
  • Develop repair plans and programmes
  • Restore operations
  • Update plans

Additional responsibilities include managing risk, controls and compliance, supporting BC/DR audit and review activities and developing and maintaining policies, standards and procedures aligned to best practice (NIST, FFIEC BCP manual).

Among the skills most in demand are:

Knowledge of methodologies, frameworks, mandatory regulations and international best practices and standards of Business Continuity, Information Security, Data Privacy and Data Protection (e.g.: ISO 22301, DRI Professional Practices, BCI Good Practice Guidelines, ISO 27001, NIST, PCI-DSS, GDPR, etc…);

In the IT sector there is strong competition in the market and speed in contacting them and a salary study are the bases for optimising a selection process.

Ricercamy, a revolutionary and dynamic head hunter, born in March 2012, has, since its inception, been committed to introducing innovative elements into the world of Search and Selection that would improve the redemption of Recruiting activities.

According to a study by Linkedin, 75% of talents are passive and already working, not proactively looking for new professional opportunities. Only 25% of them are more consistently interested in actively searching for new job offers. Therefore, investing the company’s budget in subscriptions and/or offers from job posting platforms cannot be the only effective solution.

It is necessary to adopt a methodology that allows us to reach the best candidates: headhunting calls!

This is how our specialised headhunters find qualified staff for our clients.

Our consultants’ anonymous calls are able to intercept any profile with different seniorities.

Through a very thorough and technical telephone pre-screening, in addition to the personal data, we collect all the specifications on the candidate’s experience necessary to assess its validity and thus allow the candidate to access the next step.

All of the above is carried out and shared in real time via a cloud file in which it is possible to work hand in hand with the client company’s human resources representative, who does not have to wait 2-3 weeks to receive the first shortlist of valid profiles, but just a few hours!

Transparency and immediate sharing is a distinctive trait of Ricercamy, which has specialised over the years in the search and selection of technical figures in the IT field, thanks to the development of specific skills and knowledge of the profiles sought and the reference market.

By searching for personnel on a daily basis, our headhunters have acquired know-how and specialisation in their sectors, which allows us to be leaders in this market crowded with recruiters.

On the strength of our tools, since its inception, Ricercamy has helped from the smallest IT Start-Ups, to the large IT Colossi in the selection of qualified personnel who are difficult to find and to place. Thanks to our SMART commercial offer, our clients ask us to carry out selections that they have always tended to do internally, but since we have certain costs and do not provide completion fees or exclusivity, they feel free to delegate to us the management of their vacancies, or those more difficult or repetitive activities, thus lightening their workload.
