History
The Macallan 12 Year Old Sherry Oak Single Malt Scotch Whisky is a premium Single Malt Scotch which is matured at The Macallan distillery for a minimum of 12 years in Sherry oak casks from Spain. Established in 1824, the distillery is located on a ridge above the River Spey, where the iconic Easter Elchies House has served as its spiritual home for over three centuries. Originally, Alexander Reid sowed barley around his rented home, creating the first licensed distillery on the estate. The Macallan Estate now spans 370 acres, with a significant portion dedicated to producing its own Minstrel barley, ensuring quality. After careful malting, mashing, and fermentation, the whisky is distilled in small copper-pot stills, which enhance its rich flavor profile. This meticulous process results in a complex, oily whisky that has garnered acclaim worldwide.
