Stranahan's Rocky Mountain Blue Peak is the Solera-finished expression from Colorado's pioneering American single malt distillery — hand-crafted at high altitude, aged four years in 53-gallon new American oak barrels with a #3 char, then finished through the Solera process to add the fruit and butterscotch characteristics that the time-honored wine maturation technique imparts to the already-complex Colorado single malt base.
Named for a 13,000-foot peak in Aspen and inspired by the alpine scenery of the Rocky Mountains, Blue Peak applies a Solera process — where older spirit is continuously blended with younger batches, maintaining continuity and adding complexity — to produce a richer and more fruit-forward profile than the standard Stranahan's flagship. The four years of high-altitude aging in new American oak provides the toasted vanilla and warm caramel foundation; the Solera finishing adds the dried fruit and butterscotch layering on top. A maturation method originating in Sherry production in Spain, where a portion of older spirit is continuously blended with younger batches rather than fully emptying and refilling single barrels. The result is a spirit that always contains a percentage of very old liquid, adding complexity, consistency, and the fruit and butterscotch characteristics that distinguish Blue Peak from Stranahan's standard releases.
