Taste
Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve Rye Bourbon is an outstanding bourbon, which is a rye-forward bourbon that has been aged for 13 years. This luxurious line of bourbon is named after the iconic Julian P. Van Winkle, Sr. who was called "Pappy" by family and friends who appreciated him dearly. It is produced at the award-winning Buffalo Trace Distillery. This marvelous blend is crafted from Mash Bill #2, like other great blends such as Blanton's, William Larue, and Elmer T. Lee's. It is produced with a sour mash of corn, malted barley, and extra rye. This bourbon is rich and complex with vibrant notes of chestnuts, spice, vanilla, and fruit. It features flavors of cocoa, vanilla, spice, and white pepper, creating a delightful symphony on the palate. A long, warm, and complex finish with caramel and spice combined with dry oak ensures a memorable tasting experience.

History
Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve Rye Bourbon is known as a unicorn in the bourbon community. It is an iconic bourbon created to commemorate the legacy of Julian P. Van Winkle, Sr., best known as "Pappy" by those who knew him and loved him. Pappy began working at W.L. Weller & Sons in 1893 and eventually became the President of Stitzel-Weller Distillery, earning an outstanding reputation for his commitment to fine bourbon. His son, Julian Jr., sold the business in 1972, a decision he later regretted. This led him to establish "J.P. Van Winkle and Son" to keep the bourbon legacy alive. After Julian III took over in 1981, he faced a challenging market but persevered, purchasing the Old Hoffman Distillery for storage. By 1997, his bourbon was recognized with a 99/100 score from a beverage testing institute, paving the way for future collaborations. In 2002, Buffalo Trace Distillery began producing Van Winkle bourbons using Pappy's original recipe, ensuring the quality and tradition are preserved for bourbon enthusiasts everywhere.
