Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost & Rare Port Ellen is the second in the Ghost & Rare series crafted by Master Blender Dr. Jim Beveridge — centred on the irreplaceable Islay ghost whisky from Port Ellen Distillery which closed in 1983, blended with the ghost whiskies of Caledonian and Carsebridge, and five rare malts from Mortlach, Dailuaine, Cragganmore, Blair Athol, and Oban.

Port Ellen Distillery on the southern shore of Islay was one of the island's most celebrated distilleries before its closure in 1983. Its remaining casks are a finite, irreplaceable resource. The Ghost & Rare series was created to explore the flavour of irreplaceable spirits from a small number of iconic closed distilleries. The result layers creamy vanilla sweetness with rolling waves of waxy citrus, rich malt, and tropical fruit — all balanced by the distinctive maritime smokiness of Port Ellen that lingers in the long, warming finish.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is Port Ellen so rare and sought-after?

Port Ellen Distillery on Islay closed in 1983 — its remaining casks are a finite and depleting ghost distillery resource. Port Ellen is considered one of the most complex and profound Islay single malts, with a distinctive earthy, waxy, and intensely smoky character. Its inclusion in the Ghost & Rare series makes this an increasingly rare blend as the remaining stocks diminish.
