Glen Elgin distillery is a Scotch single malt whisky distillery in Fogwatt, Moray, Scotland. The distillery was founded in 1898, and is now owned by Diageo. This particular expression from independent bottler James Eadie spent 9+ years in bourbon casks before finishing for 19 months in a first fill Bual hogshead (European Oak) that previously held Madeira Wine. Total worldwide outturn: 325 bottles.
Nose: Tropical fruits - papaya and mango. Also a hint of strawberries and cream.
Palate: Hotter and spicier than perhaps expected. Vanilla biscuits, apricot jam and nutmeg.
Finish: Far more elegant on the back palate with lingering tannins.
