This is Glen Scotia's second release from their Icons of Campbeltown series. Taking inspiration from St Michael slaying a fire-breathing dragon, this is a decadently smoky whisky, with fiery red fruits.
Glen Scotia is one of the smallest distilleries in Scotland, and one of just three currently operating in Campbeltown.
The distillery, originally named Scotia (the Glen was added later), was built in 1832 by Stewart, Galbraith & Co, who ran it until 1895.
In 1924, Scotia was purchased by Duncan MacCallum, who had founded Glen Nevis. He was forced to close the distillery in 1928, but reopened it in 1930. That same year, MacCallum committed suicide after losing his life savings in a scam, and his ghost is said to haunt the distillery.
Producer's Tasting Notes
Nose: Ocean spray, red berries, peat smoke
Palate: Melted brown sugar, raspberry, cranberry, apple, vanilla
Finish: Long, red cherries and swirling peat smoke
