How to find a good IoT Architect

  • Post category:article / News

Are you looking for an IoT Architect but are finding it difficult to recruit one? Have you relied on recruitment companies but have not had the expected results?

In this article we explain who this figure is and what he/she does and the advantages of turning to Ricercamy as a partner in the search and selection of profiles in the IT sector.

It must be said that technological innovation due to Information Technology is not only used by humans with the benefits that we know well, but it has also been used for some time by all devices and machinery that are connected: it is the so-called IoT (Internet of Things).

The IoT, or the Internet of Things, is the technology that connects any device to the Internet and to other devices, this can include smart sensors, phones, home appliances, cameras, wearable technology and cars, which sift through all the data transmitted between networks by the various machines and gadgets used by millions of people every day.

Architects are responsible for creating and communicating the concept, message and architecture of the IoT.

This technology is often used in production and industry, linking production machines, computers, management software and security systems allows for more efficient, faster production and ensures greater security in industrial environments, so organisations are increasingly driven by the market and internal demands to develop and support IoT solutions.

It is in this context that the IoT Architect operates, whose main objectives are:

Developing the IoT vision and technical strategy at the forefront: the IoT Architect must work with key business and IT leaders to develop an IoT vision that defines the goals to be pursued and to communicate this vision to key stakeholders
Design an end-to-end IoT architecture: the IoT architect must identify and document the IoT target state for the organisation and ensure that the target architecture meets current and future business requirements
Enable design and build of IoT solutions: the IoT architect collaborates and enables solution architects in the design and implementation of IoT solutions. The target architecture is a valuable resource, but not the only one to which the IoT architect must contribute
Create a process to create IoT solutions: developing and standardising the process to create IoT solutions and then driving the evolution and improvement of that process is critical, this will help make the creation of IoT solutions by the organisation easier and more reliable
Collaborate with different business groups to deliver value: the architect must effectively engage with teams across the organisation to develop clear business objectives for IoT solutions and ensure they integrate well with existing operations

What specifically does the IoT Architect do?

The main task is to create an interconnected network capable of communicating the following equipment and making it work simultaneously and profitably:

Sensors, which are responsible for acquiring information from the field, from connected objects
Gateways, which are not compulsory but are often present, and which aggregate the data from the various sensors and transmit them to the technological layers that will then process them.
A network, whether wired, wireless or a mix of the two, which is essential for making machines, sensors and servers ‘talk’ to each other and for transporting data
a software part, which cleans and analyses the data, processes them and transforms them into information available to the user in a useful and comprehensible manner
Interfaces, the front-end part of an IoT application, the part that makes the actual value of the data collected explicit.
Everything contributes to the final result: improving efficiency or generating new revenue opportunities.

The following skills are needed to perform the above activities:

A technical/scientific degree (Electronic or Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics) is advisable as a basis for studies.
Analytical, orderly and problem-solving mindset
Aptitude for communication and teamwork
Enthusiasm for innovation and Information Technology
Leadership skills in technical activities and interaction
Experience in the design and implementation of application systems for the Internet of Things, Java, Javascript, C, C++, Phyton languages, use of relational and non-relational databases, Big Data architectures
Knowledge of common integration mechanisms and patterns (microservices, message queues, event-driven integration)
Experience in using one or more Cloud platforms (Microsoft, Google, Amazon, IBM, Red Hat, …) and related PaaS services
Agile and DevOps experience and knowledge
Preferable experience in programming industrial devices and equipment

In the IT sector there is strong competition on the market and speed in contacting them and a study of remuneration are the foundations for optimising a selection process.

Ricercamy, a revolutionary and dynamic head hunter, born in March 2012, has, since its inception, been committed to introducing innovative elements into the world of Search and Selection that would improve the redemption of Recruiting activities.

According to a study by Linkedin, 75% of talents are passive and already working, not proactively looking for new professional opportunities. Only 25% of them are more consistently interested in actively searching for new job offers. Therefore, investing the company’s budget in subscriptions and/or offers from job posting platforms cannot be the only effective solution.

It is necessary to adopt a methodology that allows us to reach the best candidates: headhunting calls!

This is how our specialised headhunters find qualified staff for our clients.

Our consultants’ anonymous calls are able to intercept any profile with different seniorities.

Through a very thorough and technical telephone pre-screening, in addition to the personal data, we collect all the specifications on the candidate’s experience necessary to assess its validity and thus allow the candidate to access the next step.

All of the above is carried out and shared in real time via a cloud file in which it is possible to work hand in hand with the client company’s human resources representative, who does not have to wait 2-3 weeks to receive the first shortlist of valid profiles, but just a few hours!

Transparency and immediate sharing is a distinctive trait of Ricercamy, which has specialised over the years in the search and selection of technical figures in the IT field, thanks to the development of specific skills and knowledge of the profiles sought and the reference market.

By searching for personnel on a daily basis, our headhunters have acquired know-how and specialisation in their sectors, which allows us to be leaders in this market crowded with recruiters.

On the strength of our tools, since its inception, Ricercamy has helped from the smallest IT Start-Ups, to the large IT Colossi in the selection of qualified personnel who are difficult to find and to place. Thanks to our SMART commercial offer, our clients ask us to carry out selections that they have always tended to do internally, but since we have certain costs and do not provide completion fees or exclusivity, they feel free to delegate to us the management of their vacancies, or those more difficult or repetitive activities, thus lightening their workload.

If you are also looking for these profiles, don’t wait!
