Tio Rey, from the town of Sola de Vega, is Vago’s only clay pot producer. This mezcal captures the essence of ancestral mezcal methods: agaves are hand-ground instead of by tahona, and distilled in clay pots versus copper. Tio Rey’s Ensamble batches are unique field blends of agave varietals, meaning the blend starts in the roasting process; there is no blending of spirits after distillation. Each batch is a special work of art that will never be repeated. This mezcal is great for somebody looking to try something different.
