Two James Catcher’s Rye Whiskey is produced at Two James Spirits in Detroit, Michigan — distilled from 100% Michigan rye grain and pure water from the Great Lakes watershed, aged for a minimum of two years in new charred American oak. A 100% rye mash bill (rather than a rye-dominant mashbill with corn) produces a spicier, drier spirit than standard American rye whiskey.
Two James is Detroit’s first licensed distillery since Prohibition. The 100% Michigan rye mash bill is a genuine production choice — most American rye whiskey uses a mashbill of 51% rye minimum with corn and barley making up the remainder. A 100% rye grain bill produces a more intense rye character: assertive spice, dryness, and grain character that corn-inclusive mash bills soften.
Nose: Rye spice, black pepper, dried fruit, and grain. Palate: Assertive rye — spice, caraway, and dried cherry. Finish: Long and spicy with persistent rye grain.
