Aromas of red and black plums, cassis, licorice, southern herbs and lavender. Medium-bodied with refined tannins and impressive depth.

95 points - Jeb Dunnuck

The flagship 2016 Colline Lucchesi Rosso Tenuta di Valgiano checks in as 60% Sangiovese and 20% each of Syrah and Merlot, aged in older French oak for 12 months followed by six months in concrete tanks. Blueberries, blackberries, violets, leafy herbs, chocolate, and some peppery notes all define the bouquet, and this beauty is medium to full-bodied, with silky tannins, no hard edges, and a great finish. This gorgeous, elegant wine just shines on all accounts.

94 points - Vinous

The 2016 Tenuta di Valgiano packs a serious punch. A heady, flamboyant wine, the 2016 possesses tremendous breadth as well as a real sense of authority. Dark berry fruit, herbs, sage, tobacco, licorice and scorched earth are some of the elements that run through the 2016. Although the 2016 offers tons of intrigue in its exotic, powerful personality, its qualities will be even more expressive in another few years’ time.

94 points - Wine & Spirits
Moreno Petrini and Laura di Collobiano farm their 40 vineyard acres biodynamically (Demeter certified), the vines rooted in humus-rich, well-aerated soils in the hills above the Tuscan town of Lucca. This is their flagship wine, a blend of 60 percent sangiovese with equal parts merlot and syrah, the grapes hand-harvested and fermented with ambient yeasts before aging in old French-oak barrels for one year. The wine unfolds with notes of orange zest, licorice and anise that weave through flavors of blackberry and wild cherry. Opulent and layered, it picks up accents of tobacco and black pepper on the way to a long, balanced finish.
