This lot comes from Sítio da Torre in Minas Gerais, Brazil, grown by the Coli Siblings. A Washed Red Obatã, it placed 9th in the Pulped Natural category at the 2025 Cocarive Specialty Coffee Competition with a cupping score of 88.64. We bought this lot directly off the competition table.
Red Obatã is a Brazilian varietal, a cross of Villa Sarchi and Timor Hybrid released in 2000. It's known for a sweet, creamy cup with chocolate and citrus notes, and natural-processed lots often lean into red fruit and berry character. It's less common on shelves than Catuaí or Bourbon, so this is a good chance to taste something a little different without sacrificing cup quality.
COCARIVE, the cooperative Sítio da Torre sells through, is based in Carmo de Minas, and has built a reputation for producing some of Brazil's best specialty lots, with every member farm certified by the Brazilian Specialty Coffee Association.
