Uncut. Unfiltered. Nearly two decades in the barrel. The 2021 annual release of Sazerac Rye 18 Year — one of five Buffalo Trace Antique Collection expressions released each fall and among the rarest straight rye whiskeys in American production.
The Buffalo Trace Antique Collection (BTAC) is released once per year in limited quantities to a small number of allocated retailers. Sazerac Rye 18 Year is the rye expression in the BTAC lineup — a straight rye whiskey aged for 18 years at the Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky, bottled uncut and unfiltered at its natural barrel proof. The BTAC is arguably the most anticipated annual American whiskey release, with Sazerac 18 Year among its most celebrated components.
The name connects to one of American drinking culture's most significant institutions: the Sazerac Coffee House, established in 1850 in New Orleans, Louisiana, which became the birthplace of the Sazerac cocktail — widely considered America's first cocktail. The whiskey's heritage runs through George T. Stagg, whose 19th-century distillery in Frankfort became what is now Buffalo Trace. Eighteen years of uninterrupted Kentucky aging produces a rye of extraordinary depth and balance — bold spice tempered by the long maturation into something elegantly mature.
