In the Itata Valley of southern Chile, where the Bío Bío and Itata rivers carve through ancient granite soils, Roberto Henríquez tends some of the oldest vines in the world. Planted between one hundred and two hundred and fifty years ago — pre-phylloxera, ungrafted, and still producing — these vines are a living archive of Chilean viticulture. Henríquez farms them with a philosophy of conscious, traditional, and innovative viticulture, working the soils sustainably across a landscape that is, in his words, the largest and most unique territory of old vines on earth.

The Roberto Henríquez Semillon 100 Year Old Vines Fundo La Unión Valle del Itata 2024 750ml comes from Fundo La Unión, one of the oldest estates in the Coelemu area of the Itata Valley, just 14 kilometers from the Pacific coast. Named the best Semillon by the CAV Mesa de Cata 2020, this wine is a compelling argument for Sémillon as a world-class white variety. The nose is ripe and expressive — yellow apple, peach, and pear — with a mineral-driven palate of cool granite stoniness, fennel-like garrigue, and bright citrus. Complex, precise, and deeply rooted in place.
