When Masataka Taketsuru returned from Scotland in 1920 and eventually founded Nikka in 1934, the company needed products to sell while the whiskies aged. Nikka produced apple juice and apple brandy from Hokkaido apples — a decision that sustained the business and became part of the company's identity. The 100th Anniversary expression finishes Miyagikyo's elegant, fruity single malt character in Nikka's own apple brandy casks, adding a delicate apple aroma alongside the existing Sherry and cinnamon spice character of the distillery. The result is a historically significant release that connects Nikka's present whisky craft to its apple-growing origins.
