Mars Iwai Tradition Chateau Mars Wine Cask Finish Japanese Whisky

Iwai Tradition is an annual, limited-release blended Japanese whisky from Mars Shinshu in Nagano, Japan. It is made from a blend of 70% malted barley and 30% corn and is primarily aged in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks, although other cask types including ex-wine, port, and new oak may be used and can vary from batch to batch. For this limited-edition release, Iwai Tradition is finished in ex-Pinot Noir and Cabernet casks from Mars Winery in Yamanashi, which adds aromas of toasted oats, strawberries, and sweet cream to the whisky's nose. The palate of this expression features flavors of pomegranate molasses, rosemary, and pink peppercorn with a lingering hint of cinnamon. Iwai Tradition is non-age statement and is non-chill filtered, with an alcohol content of 40% ABV. This limited-edition release retains the peppered backbone of the original Iwai Tradition while replacing its lightly floral notes with delicate baking spice.
