A powerful perfume of violets and red berries leads to fruity richness on a palate laced with subtle tannins. This wine will develop for 15 to 20 years in the bottle.

Pair with delicate, sauced red meat dishes and most cheeses.

96 Points - Vinous

Full, deep red. Distinctly darker and more medicinal on the nose than the Musigny, hinting at blueberry, blackberry and licorice. Then very ripe and densely packed on the palate, with its flavors of black fruits, medicinal cherry, brown spices and crushed rock lifted by a floral top note and framed by insidious ripe acidity. Finishes with broad, dusty tannins and terrific lift. This wonderfully savory, super-concentrated Bonnes-Mares is actually remarkably sweet and sexy today, but it's hard to believe that it won't shut down in bottle at some point.

95 Points - Decanter

The Bonnes-Mares is an excellent, cellar worthy wine this year, opening in the glass with a bouquet of cherries, wild berries, currant leaf, coffee and gamebird. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and concentrated, with excellent depth, rich but chalky tannins, and good energy through the long, penetrating finish. This is firmly structured but has the dimension and amplitude to carry it.

95 Points - John Gilman

The Jadot version of Bonnes-Mares is composed of a fifty-fifty split of terres rouges and terres blanches and is brilliant in 2016. The bouquet is deep, pure and sappy, offering up scents of red and black cherries, venison, a stunningly complex base of soil tones, raw cocoa, woodsmoke, mustard seed and cedar. On the palate the wine is deep, pure and already quite complex, with a sappy core, great focus and grip, suave, seamless tannins and outstanding length on the poised and perfectly balanced finish. Great juice.

95 Points - Allen Meadows - Burghound
A densely fruited and liqueur-like nose of red cherry, underbrush, spice, earth and menthol slides into the massively-scaled and suave flavors that possess superb mid-palate concentration and evident muscularity before culminating in a robust, powerful and imposingly structured finish that goes on and on. Once again this is an exceptionally firm effort that is beyond all doubt built-to-age and a wine that is going to need at least a decade of bottle age first.
