The Longrow Red annual series presents a limited cask strength expression each year using a different type of red wine cask for the secondary maturation. The 2022 release uses Tawny Port — the wood-aged, oxidative style of port from the Douro Valley of Portugal, characterised by its amber-brown (tawny) colour from extended barrel ageing, with the characteristic nutty, dried fruit, and caramel complexity that distinguishes Tawny from Ruby Port. 7 years of bourbon cask maturation develops the characteristic Longrow heavily peated base before 4 years in Tawny Port casks adds the red fruit, honey, and nutty complexity of the Douro fortified wine character.
