CRITICAL ACCLAIM:

“The 2022 Marsannay Champs Saint-Etienne, from more clayey soils, offers more red berry fruit on the nose compared to other cuvées. Raspberry, cranberry and rose petal scents filter through its bouquet. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins. This is an expressive Marsannay with admirable mineralité toward the finish. It's worth hunting down.” - 90 PTS, NEAL MARTIN, VINOUS MEDIA (01/2025)

“A fine rich purple but not too deep. Dense bright raspberry fruit with good acidity, squeezed till the pips squeak but this absolutely works. The fruit at the finish is all red, and the wine properly harmonious. Drink from 2028-2036” - 89-92 PTS, JASPER MORRIS (11/2023)

IMPORTER NOTES:

ABOUT THE PRODUCER: "Domaine Joseph Roty has long been considered one of the top producers in all of Burgundy. The Grand Cru, Premier Cru and village level wines from Gevrey are always intensely concentrated, wonderfully complex and very long-lived. Joseph’s son Pierre-Jean now manages daily operations at the domaine and it is clear that the tradition of excellence has continued.

The flagship Grand Crus Charmes-Chambertin Tres Vieilles Vignes, Mazy-Chambertin and Griottes-Chambertin are all made from very old vines (some having been planted in the late 1800s) and continue to be as rich, concentrated and age-worthy as those produced by his late brother Philippe or their father Joseph.

Not only have they maintained the high quality of their wines from the Chambertin area, but they have led the charge to boost Marsannay’s reputation as well. Philippe expanded the domaine’s holdings in the village dramatically and joined with other top growers in petitioning the INAO to grant Premier Cru status to the best vineyards. Blind tastings have clearly demonstrated that Roty’s top Marsannays deserve that recognition."
