Hyakunen No Kodoku (“100 Years of Solitude”) is one of the rarest and most sought-after barley shochu in Japan — named after the famous Gabriel García Márquez novel, distilled from 100% estate-grown organic barley, made with white koji to keep the flavor smooth, distilled at normal pressure to preserve oils, then aged undiluted in oak casks for three to five years to develop structure and fullness.
The result is an intricate, delicate spirit — full-bodied for a shochu, with an ABV closer to whiskey than other milder shochu styles. Strong toasty notes of barley and cereal grains define the profile, distinguishing this aged barley shochu from the lighter, more delicate Japanese shochu mainstream.
