Description: Holmes Cay MHOBA Single Cask South Africa Rum is a rare, additive-free cane juice rum distilled in 2018 by MHOBA Rum Distillery in Malalane, South Africa, and aged entirely on-site for six years. Produced from 100% estate-grown sugarcane juice, the rum is open-fermented for 6–7 days with ambient yeast and distilled in MHOBA’s custom stainless steel and copper high-reflux pot stills. This single-cask release is a blend of two marques: Select White (SW) and Select White – Heavy Double Distillate (SW-HDD), the latter created by redistilling select cuts with fermented wash to amplify intensity. The blended marques were aged in ex–South African whisky barrels and bottled non-chill filtered at 59% ABV with no added sugar, coloring, or additives. The nose opens with fresh mint leaf and brûléed caramel, leading into a briny, textured palate of vanilla crème, Sichuan peppercorn, and spun sugar, finishing with subtle eucalyptus and coastal freshness. Limited to just 510 bottles for the U.S., this release showcases MHOBA’s uncompromising craftsmanship and stands as one of the most compelling modern agricoles outside the Caribbean.
