D&M NOTES:

TASTING: Aged in oak for a little less than a year before going through the Champagne process, this presents a full rounded aroma set of oak, nectarine, tangarine, honeycomb, and a bit of peach. The palate has a textural presence to it with bois, stone fruits, flowers, citrus oils.

PRODUCTION: The Fût de Chêne MV (MV as in Multi Vintage) is the most complete and richest expression of the house style. This wine is aged in solera, thus combining several vintages. The 2017 vintage is in the majority in this cuvée MV 17, representing more than two thirds of the blend. This champagne comes exclusively from the Ay Grand Crus terroir and spends 12 months in small oak barrels from the Argonne forest, then 6 years on the lees in bottles. A magnificent vintage for connoisseurs.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER: With a history stretching back to 1625, this small Grower-Producer from the Aÿ is today under the leadership of 12th generation family member Claude Giraud and Cellar Master Sebastien LeGolvet. The house remains committed to the highest standards of excellence using fruit from its sustainably farmed Grand Cru terroir vineyards. Quite distinctively, they build their own oak barrels from carefully selected trees from the famed Argonne forest and use these to age their grand cuvées. At the same time, they explore the use of smaller vessels made of alternative materials including terracotta and sandstone to enhance the textures and flavors of their wines. The results are wines that balance power with finesse and elegance, in the vein of Krug, Bollinger, Egly-Ouriet and Jacquesson.
