Hana The Lucky Cat Whisky

Hana The Lucky Cat is a Japanese whisky from Mars Shinshu — Japan’s highest whisky distillery at just over 2,600 feet, sandwiched between the soaring Southern Alps and the towering Central Alps. The Hombo family operates the distillery, having added whisky to a century of shochu production in 1949.

Originally located in Kagoshima Prefecture on Kyushu, the Hombo clan moved the distillery in 1984 to the idyllic alpine setting of Miyada village in southern Nagano Prefecture. They chose the site for its cool temperatures (which slow maturation) and its plentiful and soft granite-filtered, snowmelt-fed aquifers. The cool alpine climate and clean water source produce a distinctive Mars Shinshu character that benefits from extended maturation.
