Glencadam 13 Year Old The Re-Awakening is a Highland single malt from Glencadam Distillery in Brechin — the only distillery in Angus and one of Scotland’s most historically significant single malt producers, operating since 1825 — presenting a shimmering gold expression with floral and malty summer fruits on the nose, refined ripe fruit and smooth vanilla sweetness on the palate, and a full and rich finish with hints of oaky spice.
Glencadam Distillery was established in 1825 in the ancient cathedral city of Brechin, in the Highland region of Angus — the only distillery in the county. Owned by Allied Domecq, who closed it in 2000, it was purchased by Angus Dundee Distillers on 1 June 2003 and restarted immediately. The ‘Re-Awakening’ name refers to that 2003 revival. Historically Glencadam single malt was premium blending stock for prestigious blends; Angus Dundee’s first single malt release was the 15 Year in December 2005. The Re-Awakening references Glencadam’s 2003 revival by Angus Dundee Distillers after the Allied Domecq closure in 2000. The name celebrates the distillery’s return to production and the revival of the Brechin Highland single malt tradition that was previously dedicated primarily to blending.
