Another single barrel selection for us in collaboration with LoveScotch from the Luxco portfolio! Distilled by Lux Row Distillers in Bardstown Kentucky, this Ezra Brooks is a sour mash (meaning they use some of the previous fermentation to balance the pH) and is charcoal mellowed (if this was made in Tennessee it could be called a Tennessee Whiskey).
This is barrel number 1569 and it clocks in at a respectable 107 proof. The barrel was filled on 3/15/18 and aged around 5 years.
Appearance: This presents as a light mahogany/medium honey in the glass.
Nose: Right off the top you get notes of freshly baked brioche, along with slightly sour wheat notes. There are also notes of honey, vanilla, and a hint of char. Also detectable is a sort of pickled pepper.
Palate: The palate of this bourbon is extremely warm and enticing, like a hug in your mouth. Soft wheat and black pepper make a lovely front palate leading to caramel corn and chocolate in the mid. There are also nice notes of oak that underlay everything. Rounding out the palate is a note of delicious freshly baked brioche bread.
