Exit West's sophomore Red Blend release is quite frankly... Stunning.
Exit West is still a new winery, having been founded in 2023. Winemaker Patrick Sullivan brings 25+ years experience in winemaking, including making wine for the notable likes of Peter Michael, Paul Hobbs, Rudd, and Lewis Cellars. My enthusiastic bias for Exit West's Sauvignon Blanc is no secret. I was equally enthusiastic when I brought in the 2022 Red Blend release, and bought a bottle immediately.
The wine is a blend of Cab Sauv, Petite Sirah, Cab Franc, Merlot, and Petite Verdot, effectively a Bordeaux kicked up a notch.
The wine is big and powerful, showcasing darker fruits (plums, blackberries), figs, with medium body, nice structure, and a touch of spice. The wine is also elegant, supple, lush, has clarity, and is ready to drink now.
We were fortunate to get our hands on a few cases of this beautiful wine, and when it's gone, it's gone. And... if my track record of passionately sharing what I love with my customers is any indicator, it isn't going to last long.
