Our Progeny Series began as a celebration of Colorado and its innovative spirit. The third edition within this series takes form as a collaboration with Redstone Meadery.
Since 2006, the artisans at Boulder-based Redstone Meadery have been creating some of our absolute favorite examples of this fermented honeywine known as mead. When the opportunity arose to collaborate with the crew at Redstone - supplying to them freshly harvested Deerhammer whiskey barrels to age mead within - then receiving back these mead saturated barrels as a finishing tribute to our American single malt… we jumped all over this opportunity to create something new.
After an initial 2 years bout in toasted, #2 char new American oak, our whiskey was then transferred into ex-Redstone mead barrels. For an additional 2 years, it was left to intertwine with the residual complexities of Redstone’s finest barrel-aged meads. The results are extraordinary! Progeny 3: Honeycomber. A honey barrel in the truest sense!
