The second bottling in our Notable Age Statements series is a 7 year old Ben Nevis. Distilled in 2014 and matured for 7 years in a 2nd fill sherry butt before bottling at our favourite bottling strength of 100° proof.
We chose this for the NAS series as we felt it is a great example of how good younger whiskies can be. It has power and punchiness of youth, but with a wonderfully rich layer of sherry flavour from the cask, all underpinned by a strong and clear sense of Ben Nevis's wonderful distillate character. Expect lots of earthiness, tobacco, waxiness and a nicely oily and mechanical side. A perfect counterpart to the 30 year old Blended Malt we released as NAS 1, which was conversely more about age and maturity.
We bottled half of this butt as our Equinox & Solstice Autumn edition at 48.5%, this is the full-power 100° proof version with extra spicy and waxy heft!
