10 years. 100 proof. Bottled-in-Bond. Aged in Warehouse C at Buffalo Trace — one of the distillery's most storied aging facilities. The 2021 annual release of Colonel E.H. Taylor Warehouse C.

Colonel E.H. Taylor Warehouse C is an annual limited Bottled-in-Bond expression from Buffalo Trace, named for and aged in Warehouse C — a historic rickhouse that dates to the Taylor era of the distillery. It is a different product from the E.H. Taylor Warehouse C Tornado Surviving release: the Tornado Surviving is a one-time bottling of barrels exposed to the 2006 tornado that struck the warehouse; the standard Warehouse C BiB is a recurring annual release from regularly aged Warehouse C barrels.

At 100 proof and 10 years, the 2021 Warehouse C BiB follows the Bottled-in-Bond standard — single season, single distillery, federally bonded warehouse, exactly 100 proof. It is the most structured and regulated designation in American whiskey, established by the Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897 — legislation that Colonel E.H. Taylor himself championed. Drinking a Taylor BiB release is in some sense completing a historical circle.

Tasting Notes

  • Appearance: Deep amber with golden highlights from 10 years in Warehouse C.
  • Nose: Caramel, vanilla, and seasoned oak — the characteristic Buffalo Trace profile at BiB maturity.
  • Palate: Smooth and balanced — toffee, light spice, and a warm grain sweetness from a decade in the barrel.
  • Finish: Long and warm — caramel and gentle oak spice fading into a clean, dry close.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How is this different from the E.H. Taylor Warehouse C Tornado Surviving? The Tornado Surviving is a one-time release of specific barrels that were exposed to the elements after a 2006 tornado struck Warehouse C, producing an unusual accelerated aging profile. The standard Warehouse C BiB is an annual release from regularly aged Warehouse C barrels — a recurring limited expression, not a one-time event bottling.
  • What is Bottled-in-Bond? The Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897 — championed by E.H. Taylor himself — requires single-season, single-distillery production, at least four years in a federally bonded warehouse, and bottling at exactly 100 proof. It was the first federal consumer protection law for American food and drink.
  • Who was Colonel E.H. Taylor Jr.? Colonel Edmund Haynes Taylor Jr. built what would become Buffalo Trace Distillery in the 1870s and lobbied for the Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897. He is widely considered the father of the modern bourbon industry. His name on a bottle is the most storied in Kentucky bourbon history.
  • Is the 2021 Warehouse C still available? In limited quantities. Annual E.H. Taylor BiB releases sell out at primary retail and are not restocked.
