Clean Coffee Project: Lab Tested Coffee

Welcome to our Temecula Coffee Roasters clean coffee project: First a foremost, ALL of our coffee we offer is produced in a way to ensure that it is mold and mycotoxin free. We do spot testing to ensure that our process works and this lot came out particularly clean and is heavy metal free and glyphosate free so we decided to brag about it. We have sent in some of our Fairtrade Coffee to Eurofins Food and chemistry Testing US, Inc. to undergo some testing from for some harmful things that can be found in coffee like Mycotoxins, mold, yeast and heavy metals. It’s always our goal here to provide our customers with high quality, safe and great tasting coffee. So for those looking for some clean coffee, here is a great option with the proof to back it up.

We will provide the lab results of our coffee below but first understanding how to read these test results is important - Certain tests such as yeast and mold cannot produce an ND (none detected) result, because they are always present in the atmosphere and in virtually all organic matter. Therefore the use of regulatory limits is used to understand the levels that do exist. These limits are stricter than the normal regulatory limits for testing mycotoxins, yeast, and mold in coffee, and have been put together from a food safety perspective.

When we talk about heavy metal limits, you’ll see the terms PPM and PPB:

PPB (parts per billion) and PPM (parts per million) measure tiny amounts of a substance in food. Even itty-bitty-tiny amounts can be closely monitored to make sure our food is safe.

Parts per Million (PPM) = 0.000001 of 1. It is the same as 1 drop of water in 50 liters.

Parts per Billion (PPB) = 0.000000001 of 1. This is the same as 3 seconds out of a century. 

Regulatory Limits:

Lead should be less than 0.5 ppm

Arsenic should be less than 5ppm

Cadmium should be less than 0.5ppm

Mercury should be less that 0.1ppm

Yeast should be less than 1,000 colony-forming units per gram (Yeast = < 1,000 cfu/g)

Mold should be less than 1,000 colony-forming units per gram (Mold = <1,000 cfu/g)

Aflatoxin should be less than 20 parts per million (aflatoxin = < 20 ppm)

Ochratoxin should be less than 2 parts per billion (ochratoxin = < 2 ppb)

Pesticides should have none detected (Pesticides = ND)
Herbicides should have none detected (Herbicides = ND)

Please note that these tests are performed on green coffee, and the roasting process represents a major kill step on the microbiological level.
