Commercial Description:
Yasuke is a Matcha Black Lager - based on a German-style Schwarzbier but Ale’d. This beer is black as night with a mildly roasted, coffee, chocolate malt flavor and a nice clean, matcha finish that doesn’t overpower the palate. Non-dark beer drinkers should give this one a chance.
Yasuke was the first recorded foreign born (Non-Japanese) man to be given the rank of Samurai. He was a man of African origin who served as a retainer and weapon-bearer to the Japanese daimyō Oda Nobunaga, the most powerful lord in Japan during that period. Although there isn’t much historical documentation on Yasuke, there is enough to confirm his existence as the first real-life Black Samurai almost 450 years ago.
