Raphaël and Vincent Bérêche are among Champagne’s most admired growers — farmers first, winemakers by conviction, and producers of some of the most mineral, structured, and genuinely terroir-driven Champagnes being made today. Working nine hectares across the Vallée de la Marne, Petite Montagne, and a sliver of Montagne de Reims, the brothers converted to biodynamics in 2007 and have never looked back. Vinification is predominantly in barrel with natural yeasts, no malolactic fermentation, and an increasing use of cork for secondary fermentation — a deliberate set of choices that produces wines of uncommon depth and longevity at every level of the range.
The Brut Réserve is the purest expression of the Bérêche domaine: a blend of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Meunier drawn from the chalky soils of Ludes on the Montagne de Reims, the sandy terroir of Ormes in the Petite Montagne, and the clay-limestone of Mareuil-le-Port in the Vallée de la Marne. With 35% reserve wine integrated into the blend, it soars from the glass with citrus oil, green apple, and a restrained touch of brioche. The palate is medium-bodied and precise — savory and fresh in equal measure, with the vibrant, mineral-driven acidity that is the unmistakable signature of this house. The finish is long and crystalline.
Biodynamic farming, no malo, barrel fermentation — Bérêche Brut Réserve is grower Champagne at its most uncompromising.
