<p>At the beginning of the twentieth century, Lucila Gamero broke Honduran conventions by publishing&amp;#8239;<em>Blanca Olmedo</em>, the first novel written in this Central American country. Although Modernism continued its revolution of beauty and creative freedom, this work bears the unmistakable stamp of Romanticism. "The study of real life and the deeply painful examples of injustice that I witnessed-sometimes suffered by my family and myself-were what led me to write this book," explained Lucila Gamero de Medina. "The two lovers continued talking until ten o'clock at night, unaware that two greenish and malicious eyes, those of Doña Micaela, watched them with anger." </p><p>Powerful forces stood against the love between Gustavo Moreno and Blanca Olmedo: a priest, a corrupt judge, and a devout religious woman. </p><p> </p><p><strong>LUCILA GAMERO DE MEDINA</strong>&amp;#8239;was born on June 12, 1873, in Danlí, El Paraíso, and died on January 23, 1964, at the age of ninety-one. She earned her degree as a Physician and Surgeon in 1924 from the National Autonomous University. She served as director of the hospital in Danlí. In addition to&amp;#8239;<em>Blanca Olmedo</em>, she wrote: &amp;#8239;<em>Amalia Montiel</em>;&amp;#8239;<em>Adriana y Margarita</em>;&amp;#8239;<em>Página del corazón</em>;&amp;#8239;<em>Betina</em>;&amp;#8239;<em>Aída</em>;&amp;#8239;<em>Amor exótico</em>; as well as several short stories. </p>
