Aberlour Exploration at Its Greatest 12 Year Old 2008 is a richly characterful Speyside single malt Scotch whisky, released to commemorate a landmark moment in human discovery—Apollo 15, when Commander David Scott became the 7th person to walk on the Moon on July 31st, 1971. This historic mission was the first of the advanced “J” missions, enabling greater lunar exploration and famously returning the ancient Genesis Rock to Earth.

To honour this extraordinary achievement, this whisky was distilled in 2008 and matured for 12 years in a single Oloroso sherry hogshead sourced from Bodega Fernando de Castilla. Bottled in February 2021, just 262 individually numbered bottles were released, making this a rare and highly collectible expression, exclusive to The Whisky Barrel.

Why We Think You’ll Love It

  • Aged 12 years in a single Oloroso sherry hogshead from Bodega Fernando de Castilla

  • Distilled in 2008 and bottled February 2021

  • Created to mark the historic Apollo 15 Moon landing (1971)

  • Limited to just 262 individually numbered bottles

  • Exclusive to The Whisky Barrel

  • A beautifully rich and story-led Speyside single malt with depth and elegance

The Aberlour Exploration at Its Greatest 12 Year Old 2008 is a whisky inspired by mankind’s boundless curiosity and drive to explore. With its luxurious sherry-matured profile and compelling lunar backstory, this is a standout release for collectors and lovers of richly styled Speyside single malts alike.
