2020 Domaine Faiveley Mercurey Clos Rond Monopole - 750ml

Along the way to becoming a great domaine, Faiveley discovered something that we’ve also been saying ever since we opened: the Cote Chalonnaise offers the very best values in Pinot Noir on the planet. It’s a patch of hills that begins basically precisely where the Cote d’Or terminates at its southern end, scattered over a number of villages. The best one among them, for red wines made from Pinot Noir, is Mercurey.

Faiveley decided to take Mercurey seriously. They bought many of the best sites. They even built a separate winery there. They are now the single largest – and certainly the best – producer of Mercurey.

Among their holdings is a number of monopoles – Crus that are entirely owned by them. One is called Clos Rond, a patch of red soils over a limestone substrate. The vines here are 50 years old.

Faiveley is an Iconic Domaine in the best sense of the term. They have both history and pedigree (almost 200 years and 7 generations old), but also innovation as current managers Erwan and Eve Faiveley look to the future. For years, they were considered one of the large, but high quality, negociants in Burgundy – companies that source grapes from third-party growers for wine production. But now they are a true domaine, with many prized holdings in Burgundy, farmed organically, that yield some of the region’s most sought-after wines.
